Motel Bear Lake - A Retro Modern Motel.
My favorite way to stay when traveling on my motorcycle is roadside motels. They tend to be more personable and fun. They generally have more history and a sense of classic traveling.

This weekend, I found a motel that exceeded my expectations on every front. Motel Bear Lake Is a small, family-owned local “Retro-Modern” Motel. Their mission statement is “A place where all humans in and around Motel Bear Lake are cared for in an unmatched way.” and they live up to it in every way.
Check-in was simple, as they utilize Keyless entries with a unique code for each guest, allowing the check-in to be a contactless check-in. However, they are still onsite, and the lobby remains open and available for any of your needs. This includes a small amenities room that had more than I could have expected. Everything from extra towels and bedding, box fans, first aid kits, hygiene products, toys and games for kids, toys and products for animals (they are dog friendly), and so much more.
The history of the location is also well honored. once in the room, it felt like we stepped back into the 60’s on a family road trip. The vanities and bathroom had a feel of a simpler time. The rooms had every amenity I would expect and more. A fridge, Microwave and Coffee pot allowed for simple meals. A modern flat screen Smart TV allowed us to use our personal streaming services, but Netflix was provided by the Motel. The beds were Organic Memory foam, that at first I was unsure if they would be comfortable, but as we settled in for the night, we fell into a deep comfortable sleep.
Two small chairs and a table were provided outside of every door. This was perfect as one of my favorite activities when traveling on my motorcycle is to site out and enjoy the weather while being able to watch the local world in a town that I have never been.
The pool is small, but perfect for cooling off on a hot day. It has been designed and decorated to give off Palm Springs vibes. With plenty of lounge chairs for seating and multiple floats available, it’s a nice oasis. There is also easy lake access across the street with a community beach that was clean, had a sandy bottom, and even had available life jackets. Next to the pool is a relaxing fire pit with multiple outdoor tables and chairs to enjoy the beautiful Northern Michigan summers with friends. And sprinkled around the property are many benches that provide a relaxing and comfortable spot to sit and reflect on the day.
Overall, the combination of small town charm and personable service this Motel truly was a perfect addition to a long weekend of exploring the M22 trail up and down the Leelanau Peninsula. Motel Bear Lake clearly has a passion to not only accept all humans but also provide a service to the local community and travelers alike. I couldn’t recommend this Motel more if I tried!
